What science show you are luring me to watch, or episodes like “The one with the friends were much better” If you’re having second thoughts like this behind my blog’s back, know that reading this review will feel like brainwashing the pre-frontal cortex.
The American sitcom aired its first season in 2007 and has come a long way since. The show is based on some science guys (physicists to be precise) and a hot blonde in the beginning and how their universe expanded from a singularity to a multiverse in the forthcoming years. Sheldon Cooper (Jim Parsons), is in-a-way the heart and soul of the show. Dr Sheldon Lee Cooper, B.S., M.S., M.A., PhD, Sc.D., (OMG right?), is a theoretical physicist at Cal-tech University who shares his apartment with Dr. Leonard Leaky Hofstadter (Johny Galecki), who is an experimental physicist. Their world undergoes a paradigm shift when a Cheesecake Factory waitress/aspiring actress, Penny (Kaley Cucuo’s incarnation), moves in next door. Our heroes are accompanied by a dynamic duo of Howard Joel Wolowitz (Simon Helberg), a Jewish mechanical engineer who still lives with his mom and Rajesh Ramayan Koothrapali (Kunal Nayyar),yeah it’s a choice between a necessary black guy or an Indian. He’s a lovable foreigner and astrophysicist, who can not speak to women unless drunk. The concept of the show revolves around four guys in pursuit of science and love, except for Sheldon according to whom love is just a chemical reaction in our bodies, lust is driven by testosterone and estrogen, then adrenaline, dopamine, serotonin does the rest. It’s not something magical, it’s just science.
The guys are fond of nerdy movies like Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Doctor Who, Marvel & DC comics and Gaming which is fairly visible throughout the show. The series is full of hilarious jokes, funny enough to give you stomachache. Although it would take some time to adjust to Sheldon, the other guys have problems too :p .The casting couldn’t have been better. The recurring characters like Stuart, who owns a comic book store and Barry Kripke, Sheldon’s rival in the Cal-tech, not to forget Wil Wheaton portraying himself are extra topping to the show. The theme song by Barenaked Ladies (yeah, you read it right) is awesome. The show has completed its 9th season and is nearing its end. If this has eluded your eyes up-till now or you have ignored it please give it a try on behalf of kernel ketchup, and thank me after, and plus you might even find a pretty good excuse to sit in your spot after watching the show. You’ll find mixed reviews about this show on the internet telling you the jokes are dumb or the show is not funny enough but just try to ignore them. At the beginning I too was skeptical about this show but later I started enjoying it, particularly Sheldon and Howard jokes.
